The seasoned duo, who are behind 6Smith in Wayzata and Baldamar in Roseville, just opened their most upscale steakhouse yet: Smithson Steak & Seafood at Southdale Center in Edina. Smithson offers a London steakhouse vibe with high-touch service and an elevated proprietary steak program.
The Stanleys' restaurants have grown more luxurious with each opening, with money from previous successes invested in the new venture..
Randy Stanley, who spent his career in the food industry working at places like W.A. Frost and Manny’s Steakhouse, talks of their steakhouses like children.
6Smith is the “refined but edgy” rebellious oldest child — a “creative easel” that the Stanleys have evolved repeatedly since it opened in Wayzata in 2014, he said. It was one of the first "gritty, urban" cheffy concepts with a mixology program to open in the suburbs, he added. Baldamar, which opened in Rosedale Center’s parking lot in 2019, is the fun, outgoing middle child.Smithson, is preppy, reserved and a bit mischievous.
Smithson's most expensive item is a 20-ounce bone-in Prime ribeye for $90, while Baldamar and 6Smith serve a 12-ounce Prime filet mignon for $76. Their best customer is still the average consumer who isn't used to such hospitality and attention, they said.
“We put everything we had into this one. We had more to give, so they just get more and more luxurious feeling,” Stanley said.
